Quietude

Rood Henry’s Artspace

The Quietude Exhibition is a culmination of my artistic practice over the past few years. While the art forms vary from sculpture (my specialist area at university) to textiles and mixed media artworks in watercolour and acrylics my unique aesthetic featuring rich textural detail, delicate forms and vivid colour pallets is present throughout and provides a sense of cohesion.

The collection of artworks specifically created for this exhibition is informed by the temporary value we as consumers assigned to items. The transition each of them undergo from relevant and sought after to redundant or less desirable. Within this collection I have used sheet music, book pages, dressmaking patterns and dried leaves and flowers. The opportunity to combine these items with a vast array of mixed media mediums such as acrylic paint, ink, paint pens, oil pastels, fine liners, pencils, printed collage papers and watercolour paints provide a rich juxtaposition of new and old. The mixed media artworks are inspired by the shapes and details found within flowers, leaves, feathers and other objects found within nature.

With the constant advancement of technology physical objects such as sheet music and dress making patterns have become less desired as digital options take their place. With this transition comes the clearing out of homes of these items and they often end up in op shops or thrown away.

By choosing to repurpose these items that society now deem less than valuable, or even to the extreme of reaching redundancy or simply treated as waste they have the opportunity to reclaim their place of value albeit in a different context.
